Trips to the Nature
The Parra mountain with its surroundings is full of beautiful destinations that are easy to access – ancient stone fields, viewpoints, built grounds and a lake for birdwatching. Resting is easy on multiple lean-to shelters and open huts.

The Stone Fields and Viewpoints of Parra
The Parra area has several stone fields born in the ice age. The one near the top of the Parra Hill is especially easy to access, along hiking trails on foot or by car on a narrow road.
Beside the field you can find a lean-to shelter with firewood provided from spring to autumn. Near the shelter starts a path wandering past a 400-year-old pine tree.
It’s only a short distance from the stone field to the top of the mountain. The last 200 meters have to be climbed on foot, but the views waiting on the top are worth it.
From the top you can see as far as tens of kilometers to the distance. In the landscape you can look for landmarks such as chimneys of industrial plants on the seaside or an increasing amount of windmills.

Swimming Lakes and the grounds of Luonto-Parra
The two swimming lakes on Luonto-Parra grounds are a public beach. For swimmers there are two changing rooms and also a public restroom on the side of the lakes in the main building.
A gazebo and a BBQ hut with a fireplace and firewood on the beach are great places for a picnic! Another option in the summer are the huge lawns around the lakes.

Beside the lakes stand the buildings of Luonto-Parra. For example the Forest Church, where an old barn is customized into an altar, offers something to explore. The huge Parra Goahti forms its own mysterious section with a side building of the same aesthetic.
You can also explore the area via numerous forest paths and hiking trails that start near the buildings.
On the other side of the lake you can find one particular monument – the world’s biggest javelin. It has been built in honor of the local javelin thrower Pauli Nevala, who won the Olympics in 1964. The monument reaches 24 meters from the ground.

The swimming lakes and Luonto-Parra yards can easily be reached by car. There is plenty of parking space nearby.

Sled Hill and BBQ Huts in Snowpark Parra
For the winter the Sled Hill is covered with snow made by snow cannons, just as the skiing slopes. The Sled Hill is free to use by anyone.
Beside the Sled Hill you can find a colorful village of four BBQ huts with fireplaces. The huts are free to use year around, but firewood is only available in winter on the opening hours of the ski center Snowpark Parra.

In summertime it’s possible to climb to the top on the multiple paths along the slopes. You can also find a lean-to-shelter on both slopes, with beautiful views to the horizon. The shelters found on slopes do not have fireplaces.
The Sled Hill and BBQ huts of Snowpark Parra are easily accessible, even with a greater picnic basket, as they are located right next to a parking lot.

Suksenjärvi – a great place for birdwatching
An excellent destination for a daytrip to the beautiful nature is Suksenjärvi, a lake located close to Parra area. A process to drain the lake to be used as farmland was started in the 18th century. In the 20th century the lake was restored into a great habitat for birds.
The life of the birds can nowadays be studied from two birdwatching towers in the area. Close to one of the towers is a lean-to-shelter with firewood provided, and a dry toilet.
The distance between Parra and Suksenjärvi is 3,5 kilometers. You can hike from Parra to the furthest of the birdwatching towers, along a marked hiking trail of 6 kilometers that begins from the Luonto-Parra yard.
It is also possible to travel the distance by car, that way the trip is between 4 and 8 kilometers. Both birdwatching towers have their own spaces for parking. From there, a path a few hundred meters long leads to the tower.
